As of last night (3/22), the MCPASD board enforced a new rule stating that the middle school music departments will be cut due to COVID-19 and time restrictions, as of May 3rd for the remainder of the school year. Personally, the music program is one of the primary things that has gotten me through what has been a treacherous year, and I know I'm not the only one. Although I no longer attend my former middle school, this is important enough to advocate for. I created this petition solely for the purpose of showing that we do care. That music in our community does matter. Although this is incredibly fresh and there aren't many details put into place, I feel obligated to put this out there. All I'm asking is to show support towards the idea that there should be an alternative curated, rather than giving up. Thank you for your time. :)

Band made me who i am today. leave the music programs alone!
As a former music student at the MCPASD middle schools, it's important for me that they keep the music programs open. That was such a big and memorable part of my middle school experience and it shouldn't be taken from others.
Ridiculous decision. Kids need outlets right now more than ever.
My band experience at Kromrey was so amazing and shaped me into the musician I am today. Without this year for these middleschool band, orchestra, and choir students they will not be able to reach their full musical potential. Without band I would not have become the person I am today. I gained confidence, it became an outlet for me to get my emotions out, and my FAMILY that was my middleschool and now high school band are the ones who I thank for being here today. I want every middleschooler to have the same experience and opportunities as I did. This is what they need and this petition proves this is also what they want.
GCMS choir definitely creates MHS theatre students. Without taking choir all three years I probably would’ve stayed with the toxic group i was in and never branched out into the theatre department and met my closest friends. PLEASE keep this department around so we can continue to inspire kids the same way choir inspired me.
