On March 28th and 29th, the unionized IC contingent faculty will be holding a strike in response to a fruitless 18 months of negotiations with administration. Administration has consistently refused to acknowledge the needs of our contingent faculty (read: 40% of the faculty on campus) and condemned them to poverty wages, food stamps, and an inability to be the resources their students need.
It is crucial for students and tenured faculty to stand behind the union during this time. It is up to the entire campus community to make clear to administration that we demand better for our professors and our education. Please sign, and come out on the 28th and 29th, to show your support for our contingent faculty.

im hearing from so many of you who are just as frustrated as i am about how things are being handled. i have been spending my time meeting with the union team to make sure we are ready for the picket lines because we really need to show them how many people care about this.

this is getting way bigger than i imagined and it feels like the administration is finally starting to pay attention. i honestly didnt think we would get this much energy so quickly but it shows how many people actually care about our faculty. lets keep this momentum going until we get the results we need.

My mother was a contingent faculty member at a community college in an inner city system and made almost as much per credit hour for a part time contingent faculty member here at IC, one of the most expensive colleges in the nation. I want my tuition to go towards making sure my professors aren't struggling, so they can make my education a priority rather than worrying about making their food stamps last. Please take care of my teachers, my education depends on them!
Some of the best teachers on this campus are contingent faculty. They deserve a living wage.

My classes are taught by people who have to work 3 jobs just to pay rent. Its embarrassing for the school. Pay them what they are worth.
