California is closing down it's Developmental Centers. While this means that individuals can get services in a community-based setting where they are closer to friends and family, we need to be sure that the savings from this closure goes back into supporting the Lanterman Act and regional centers.
The move to community-based services is expected to save the state millions of dollars. Under current law, those savings will be directed to the General Fund, to be used for programs that do not help people with developmental disabilities.
Tell California's leaders that these savings must go into a self-sustaining mechanism of income for community-based developmental disability services and the Lanterman Act!

We just hit 500 signatures and Sacramento is starting to take notice. California leaders think they can pocket these millions while our community suffers but they are dead wrong.

As an older, retired parent of a profoundly disabled son who still lives at home, I am worried about what will happen to my son once I can longer physically care for him. This would be a step in the right direction toward providing secure funding for services for the disabled.
Please, we fought so hard to get the recent additions to our budget for DDS just to barely keep our heads above water; we need continued funding to maintain this at a minimum. The savings from the DC closures could ensure our community based services can survive and thrive.
Please see that those with developmental disabilities have the funding that they need to survive and thrive. I have adopted four children with developmentally disabilities and they rely on the Lanterman Act programs and services.
I support community based services, if you needed this level of support you would want to be treated with dignity. This dignity comes at a cost, the money from the closure of the DC's should be funneled into community based support agencies. Thank you for your time,
Please do not do a money grab and and take away desperately need funds for people with developmental disabilities or the State will have a much more serious problem on its hands. There is no doubt about that. Keep the Promise is RIGHT!!!

The people moving out of the DCs will be going into the community services, which are horribly under-funded. Currently some of the regional centers won't even pay the local minimum wages required by the state! So that money should follow the people it is designated to support.

I adopted my son who was born addicted to street drugs, he has intellectual and behavioral difficulties and cerebral palsy and epilepsy. I made this commitment only because the Lanterman Act seemed to be a life long partner. Keep the Promise!!!
