We the undersigned believe that Rancho Los Amigos Center serves the Disability Community like no other facility in the County. Without the option of rehabilitation at Rancho Los Amigos, many people with newly acquired disabilities will be funneled into skilled nursing facilities where the financial and human costs will increase dramatically, with longer stays and profoundly diminished chances for rehabilitation and community living. Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center is a nationally recognized rehabilitation center. They offer access to specialists, rehabilitation therapies, independent living skills training, assistive technology options, driver evaluations, to all people with disabilities. These services build and maintain the capacity of people with disabilities to live, work, and thrive in our communities.
We urge the County of Los Angeles to find a solution that meets the needs of community. The only way this can happen is to:
KEEP RANCHO LOS AMIGOS REHABILITATION CENTER OPEN!
I have been staring at the maps of Downey all night and thinking about how many lives rely on these specific therapists and the specialized equipment tucked away in that building. It feels like the officials are just ignoring the actual human cost of closing this place because they see spreadsheets instead of real people trying to get their lives back after an injury. I am working on getting a meeting with the board but the phone lines are mostly just busy signals and silence for now.

This place is a landmark in Downey. You guys are kidding yourselves if you think cutting this is any kind of solution. Keep it open.

i grew up seeing the good work they do for the community. moving people to random nursing homes is just gonna cost way more in the long run anyway.

Rancho is the best in the county. Listen to the people who actually use these services.
