Allergan has offered Dr. Kadin a research grant to study how to detect BIA ALCL earlier and possibly at a pre-malignant stage. As you know, women at risk for BIA ALCL must currently choose either invasive surgery to try to reduce their risk or wait until testable symptoms develop. If women wait until testable symptoms develop, the disease may have already advanced to an incurable stage and/or to a stage requiring chemotherapy. This is a devastating dilemma for over 600,000 women in the United States and millions globally. If Dr. Kadin accepts Allergan’s research grant, he may be able to develop approaches to early diagnosis and prevent women with textured breast implants from living in fear or from undergoing a risky surgery for which presently there is no evidence that it will significantly reduce the risk of developing the disease.

We, the undersigned women with textured implants, urge Roger Williams Medical Center to allow Dr. Kadin to accept Allergan’s research grant.

I had breast cancer and had a double mastectomy and radiation. I then had reconstruction. They used Allergan tissue expanders and then the 410 highly cohesive textured implants . I am very worried and scared since I have already been through cancer to remove a 9cm tumor and 5 Sentinel node’s.
I recently paid out of pocket to have my implants removed in Australia due to the fluid pocket where the lymphoma can grow and a rupture. I opted to remove as they could not test the fluid and could not tell me if I had cancer.
I support any research that detects or rules out BIA-ALCL. Educating doctors and patients of risks would be helpful. I just explanted my 16 year old textured saline implant after a mastectomy and recontruction in 2003. Many unexplained autoimmune symptoms
Early diagnosis is the key to all. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer early which resulted in NO Chemo . Please don't let this get to the point of advanced stages. I have Biocell Textured Silicone 120 since 2011.
Please help us to find a way for early detection for better understanding and to help ease our living in constant fear of developing BIA-ALCL from currently, or previously, having textured implants.
