The Guardian Angels is a volunteer citizen's protection group the goal of which is to protect fellow residents of Indianapolis against felonies and breaches of the peace. The Indiana legislature has provided authority to do this. Indiana Code 35-33-1-4 allow anyone to arrest someone committing a felony, the most serious type of crime, and breaches of peace. The Guardian Angels is professional in its role as private citizens preventing and stopping crime. They train in martial arts, they get instruction on Indiana law in this area, and they work as a team. They want to work in unison with police. Despite that, there is some resistance in government and sometimes in the police leadership to working with the Angels. This petition will be a measure of the support we have in the Indianapolis community for what we do.
