We, the undersigned members of the Ytterby IS Basket community, are writing to formally request an extension of the permissible summer practice time at Sparråshallen. Specifically, we are seeking to extend the operating hours for community use between June 2026 to August 2026, seven days a week (between the close of school and its re-opening) and for each summer thereafter.
This request is driven by the overwhelming need for a safe and accessible space for physical activity and community engagement during the summer months. The closing of our basket hall during summer months severely limits opportunities for players of all ages, especially players from Basket P09, Basket F-Junioner and Basket Herr to participate in sports, fitness, and other healthy recreational activities when they are most needed. The players from the above-mentioned groups compete at the highest level, against clubs that have access to facilities open year-round and who practice all summer. Providing our players a similar opportunity will prevent injuries and provide them with “Fair Play”.
Granting this extension would bring numerous benefits to our community, including:
- Increased Physical Activity: Providing more time for sports, exercise, and active play for all age groups, contributing to a healthier community.
- Enhanced Community Spirit: Offering more opportunities for kids, neighbours and family’s to gather, connect, and build stronger relationships through shared activities.
- Positive Youth Engagement: Giving young people a productive and safe outlet for their energy during their summer break.
We believe that extending the summer practice time is a realistic and impactful way to improve the well-being and social structure of our community. We urge you to consider our request and take the necessary steps to make this positive change a reality.
Basketball courts should remain open for children in the summer so they can do sports.
