We the undersigned licensed Taxi & Private Hire Driver's in Sheffield, Ask Sheffield City Council to Urgently Review the Provision of Inadequate level of MOT Bays at Taxi Test Centre provided to test all Vehicles for Taxi Licensing Service.
Delays of 5 or more days is unacceptable and For A small mobile business very costly, This Service level is Not Acceptable, Retests and New bookings at times are upto 14day delays.
We Urge urgent review, to explore more testing bays for Taxis & Private Hire Vehicle's and Give Serious Consideration to Sourcing Out this Service.
The service provision should be based around the customer use.

I spent the morning listening to drivers talk about missing shifts because these wait times are just impossible to work around and honestly it is gutting to hear how much money is being lost every single day. I am trying to get someone from the council to actually pick up a phone and explain why we are stuck waiting weeks for a simple test bay when our livelihood depends on these vehicles being on the road. Please keep dropping your stories in the comments because it makes it so much easier to argue our case when I have proof that this is a city wide disaster.

We need quick time for testing of m.o.t due to being self employed more m.o.t centres will reduce waiting times for taxi vehicles Leeds city council already allows private m.o.t testing centres to test taxi vehicles. Simliar facilities in Sheffield would help a lot for Sheffield taxi driver's
I’m so pleased that you’ve highlighted the issue and are proactive in your campaign that will benefit all drivers. When the wait for an initial/retest is many weeks away it has a devastating effect on earnings and as a result families suffer financial hardship due to loss of income, in a trade that is already struggling to keep afloat.
Late arrival for test means payment of full test fee and rebook new test, but they can keep us waiting for test and no reduction in test fee.
We pay for our vehicles to get tested but yet have to assist with the test. They either need to employ more people or allow us to get our vehicles tested from other center's. We already pay way too much for a test!
As a driver we need more choice, Retest delays are unacceptable, if the service is to stay in house we need more bays 2 as minimum
I believe out sourcing would be quicker.

Good luck with this petition . I would like to add that 24hrs notice is also unacceptable if they have a space available and you’re in the licensing office on that day why do they need 24 hs notice ,I don’t think they have to prepare anything for your vehicle ..... do they ?
