The Northland Parent Association is working to remove books from school libraries that have been reported to contain inappropriate content for students, under the justification, it contains sexual or violent content. However, all of the books they have targeted have a clear bias toward people of color, women, or LGBTQIA+ people. School boards across the northland such as North Kansas City Schools and liberty are now removing the books the NPA have brought to their attention,

Some of the books they are trying to ban or have already removed from the library include:

Anger is a Gift, Blended, Lily & Dunkin, Monday’s Not Coming, The Hate U Give, This One Summer - graphic novel, Trans Mission: My Quest to a Beard, #MurderTrending, All Boys Aren’t Blue, Black Girl Unlimited, Breathless, Crank, Dead End, Fences: a play, Flamer, Fun Home- A Family Tragicomic, Gender Queer, Heavy, Lawn Boy, Living Dead Girl, Looking for Alaska, Out of Darkness, The 57 Bus: A True Story of Two Teenagers and the Crime That Changed Their Lives, The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, The Bluest Eyes, the girl who fell from the sky, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Haters, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Testaments (The Handmaid’s Tale 2), This book is gay.

Watch the NPA at NKC school district, watch the NPA at liberty, read an article from Kansas City Star, read an article from North Kansas City High School's news site, show up at a district board meeting: tell them about the opposition that exists. Our voices cannot be silenced. DON'T BAN OUR BOOKS!

I graduated from nkc in 1970. I am an avid reader. All the librarians in jr high and high school helped me find fantastic books. Non were banned. These people in the NPA can police THEIR kids all they want, but they have NO right to tell my child what she can or can't read!! That's between us.

I'm disappointed that this petition needs to be made. When I attended NKC schools, the librarians were proud that they offered "banned books". Controversial books allow critical thinking and this form of censorship disgusts me.

I'm signing this because it's ridiculous this fake outrage over books. If you don't want to read "those" type of books.... Don't read them. It's not your place to take away books you don't feel comfortable with. All students should have books representative of them and what they are going through

High school students are old enough to handle controversial subjects. And some of these books should not be listed as controversial in 2021. We need to read about other opinions in order to strengthen our own beliefs.

As someone who was once a kid being ostracized for being lgbtq, this is so not cash money to say the least. Lgbtq+ is not perverted. It's not something to be hidden just because it makes people "uncomfortable". Representation matters.

Most of the books listed are not only impactful and educating but they're validating, denying oppressed students the right to have these books in their library despite there being countless books about straight, white people's problems is moronic.

Banning books is like Nazi Germany
