Air pollution due to traffic congestion and the contribution of transport to the UKs carbon emissions mean that public transport has to pull its weight in meeting people's transport needs. We need to see major improvements to rail infrastructure across the North of England, not more new roads.

If the Chancellor truly believes in the Northern Powerhouse he needs to give us the means to deliver it.

How is it that one of the very busiest lines in the whole of Britain isn't absolute priority for electrification? Ask Mr Clegg what effect broken promises can have?

Why can't we have equality with London for the cash per head of population sent on our transport.

While happy to sign, I wouldn't hold your breath on the Government moving forward on the project anytime soon. After all, it's not long ago that they were trying to foist obsolete London underground trains on to us for the Penistone line in an attempt to "improve" on the current tin cans that operate over that route.

Typical Tories they new they'd be pulling the plug before the election but delayed the announcement. Osborne spouts 'a promise kept', but not this one George. 'Northern Powerhouse'? You really cannot trust them.

The transpennine routes are the Cinderella railways of the UK. The need major investment to match the extraordinary traffic growth experienced in the last 20 years.

I don't think that this petition will do much good. We're UP NORTH & far away as far as Gov are concerned.

The Government should honour its pledge. Transport investment in the north as compared with the south-east is an insult!
