Transport improvements are key to economic development as the Chancellor has so rightly admitted - but we need balance for the North and economic regeneration.

What good is cash through Devolution if they (the Government) take with their (many) other hands.

I am very annoyed by the pro-southern bias in how money is spent on transport investments.

Everyone deserves the right to be able to travel on the best public transport in the country. If the country is ever going to move forward, then the electrification of the railway between Manchester and Leeds should be an imminent priority.

Yet another example of the north/ south divide. There is tremendous inequality in transport infrastructure/ rolling stock investment and until this is addressed the so-called northern powerhouse will remain a vision rather than a reality. It's time to re-balance public spending now!

The current Pendolino service between the two cities already provides a fabulous service so why the need to upgrade at the expense of the North.
How does this decision fit with Mr Osborne's statement to create a Northern Powerhouse.
Put your money where your mouth is!!!!

It's a disgrace that the powers that be in the south can see no further than Watford. The North and especially the North west bring billions into the economy and deserve infrastructure that is appropriate to that level of contribution

Pulling the plug on this straight after the election undermines people's belief in the system and they feel tricked. Congratulations Mr Osbourne
