Let's get the north back on track, get the line electrified, invest for the future, faster, greener and longer trains to replace the current over crowded trams pennine and northern diesel train fleet

Politicians should keep the promises they make.

Lets get the trans pennine line back on track and fully elrctrified throughouy wihout any further delay

for too long the north's transport infrastructure has been neglected whilst London has been graced with shiny new rolling stock and new and proposed lines. Let's focus the next decade on getting the north up to scratch to create two world leading economic zones before the London bubble bursts

There is a stronger cost/benefit case for linking the ports and cities of the north of England than there is for Cross Rail 2. Couple this with an arts and culture spend that is (say) 50% of that which is spent per capita on Londoners. i.e. This northern investment needs to be done in a vigorous and full-blooded way - not as a pathetic sop - in order to reap the benefits.; but it is still considerably cheaper than Cross Rail 2. Londoners would benefit because it would stem the exodus from the increasingly prosperous north of England to the crowded and costly south-east. The North would retain its talent, its graduates, its affordable housing and its less stressful pace of life. Even the politicians would enjoy more popularity as - after a short period of wiping the egg from their face as a result of changing their minds and the waste of money already spent on Cross Rail 2 - they would enjoy the glory of having launched a successful and popular venture rather than having to defend a white elephant for years. I think I have exhausted my clichés and mixed metaphors sufficiently. Politicians, surprise us. Do the right thing.

So, the current problems on the TP electrification are too expensive, but £100 million just to STUDY Crossrail 2 is fine? Yet again, the north is being forced to accept crumbs when the south gets what it wants.

DO NOT renegade on your pre-election promises......only a morally bankrupt individual would do so!

Get the electrification plans back on track as promised during pre-election announcements. You cannot have your cake and eat it in this audacious manner. Maybe the country should renege on the actions that resulted in a Tory majority.......we were only kidding, we didn't really want you in power! Definitely one lie too many in my opinion.

Failure to improve northern transport infrastucture will result in failure to rebalance the economy across the UK, will adversely affect all the UK and will be a clear breach of preelection promises

Having announced the electrification more than once now they are elected they drop it. Compare transport investment in the south compared to the north and you can see they have no further interest in the northern powerhouse.

Northern Rail Pacers are 1950s deathtrap buses running on rails. Deeply humiliating for passengers. Every ride is a violation of basic human rights.

Mr Osborne, you have once again lied to the voters in order to get elected on false pretences. It was common knowledge that these wild 'promises' would not be delivered within the over ambitious timescale allowed. The Midland Main Line electrification for example would have brought far more economic benefits not only to the region it serves, but would have justified the Manchester - Leeds scheme too. HS2 which you still press ahead is nothing more than a vanity project that now benefits nobody and is an economic white elephant. But then again just like a typical Tory you don't care about anyone else as long as you get your 10% pay rise while the rest of us 'plebs' suffer years of pay restraint. Once again you've fooled the gullible sun readers left, right and centre.

for far too long,money for infrastructure has been lavished on London and the South-East while the North has been left behind. millions of us live in the North(there isn't room for us to move down south) so we need good communications really soon!

I whole-heartedly agree, the Chancellor should put his money where his mouth, re-neighing on this is a disgrace. so much for 'Northern Power' - just plain rhetoric.

this is the region that started the passenger railway revolution that changed the world .Stupid Tories only care about their southern voters and bribe them to stay loyal with better transport services.
