On May 1st 2014 the Irish Fine Gael Labour party government intends to increase Carbon Tax from €10 to €20 per tonne on solid fuel.

What this means is that the price of a bag of coal will increase by €1.20 which will result in the closure of retail outlets and an increase in fuel poverty across the state.

This petition is an appeal to the government to abandon plans to increase this tax.

Time is running out. For the sake of the vulnerable and elderly, for the sake of the economy and for the sake of retailers the government must abandon its plans to double the carbon tax on May 1st.

The carbon tax will effect a life dependant resource. This is an unneccessary tax which won't benefit the environment as people will be still forced to buy fuel to survive and will not have a positive impact on the environment. It's simply a tax to take more money from people.

We can't afford another increase in fuel...the Carbon Tax is gonna leave people in fuel poverty which in turn will cause no surmountable illness to the poor and elderly, This cannot happen.

The comment must stop squeezing the sustainability of vulnerable people and continually adding increased pressure to small and medum enterprises which are only beginning to see a turnaround for the first time since 2008.

An absolute disgrace. And that they sneakily impose it on May 1st so the average person won't notice the rise till next winter, when it's too late, just shows everything that this government stand for.
