Stop shark finning.

HELP TO STOP SHARK FINNING NOW. Shark finning is the practice of catching sharks and cutting their fins off while they are still alive. Their live bodies are then thrown overboard where they get eaten by other fish, starve or drown. It is driven by the Asian “delicacy” shark fin soup to which the fin adds no taste and no nutritional value. As a consumer you have the power to dictate what is stocked on our supermarket shelves and served in our restaurants. Thousands of restaurants, mainly Chinese, contine to sell shark products, including shark fin soup. After witnessing shark finning first hand, Gordon Ramsay stated on his Channel 4 documentary, “Shark Bait” televised on 16th Jan, 2011, “It's without doubt the worst case of animal cruelty I've ever seen” It is also one of the most wasteful with 95% of the animal being discarded. It is estimated that a quarter of all shark species are commercially exploited and up to 100 million individual sharks are killed each year in this unregulated, inhumane practice. The decimation of these top marine predators will eventually have disastrous implications for the rest of the ecosystem. If you would like to see these products removed from menus around the world and express your distaste for the wasteful practice of shark finning please sign below. We must stop this barbaric slaughter and help to conserve our marine ecosystem for future generations.
