We the undersigned below stand in support of the NAACP efforts to stop the continual harassment, retaliation, and immediate REVERSAL of the Notice of Intent to Terminate dated Nov. 2nd, 2010, of our beloved Sister Paula Powell, Founding Director of the African/American Resource & Cultural Center, effective November 15th, 2010. Sis. Paula Powell currently serves as the President of the Santa Cruz County Branch. She has dedicated over twenty plus years devoting her skills educating students and supporting the mission of the University overall. *We are asking that Sis. Paula be allowed to complete her final year as Founding Director and officially retire July 4th, 2011 and help her students, staff, and alumni with the transition and completion of the Center's goals and programming for 2010-11. *We are asking University officials to meet with the NAACP in order to work towards a meaningful and immediate resolution to Sis. Paula’s plight as well as address the retention and treatment of African/American staff and faculty at UCSC particularly, in the division of Student Affairs. Please forward your letters of support and personal testimonies to [email protected] by November 15th, 2010, on how Sister Paula or the Center has been of benefit to your or your organization.

Paula helped me so much when I was a freshman. Shes such an important part of this campus and losing her like this is a huge mistake.

Twenty years of service and this is the thanks she gets? Disgraceful. Paula has done so much for the students at UCSC and she deserves to finish her term with dignity.

REINSTATE HER IMMEDIATELY. The way they are treating our black staff is becoming impossible to ignore.
