The Maryland legislature officially overturned the breed-specific ruling today. We are now shifting our attention to ensuring the new language applies fairly to all dog owners regardless of breed. Thank you for maintaining the pressure that made this outcome possible.
The Maryland Court of Appeals passed a ruling this week that would allow stiffer penalties for owners of pit bulls if their dog bites someone. If my dog gets out if my yard and bites someone, i deserve a penalty. But so does the owner of Chihuahua. This includes dogs with no history of aggression. This is definitely a case of breed discrimination. Pit bulls are not the only dogs who bite. Either this needs to be repealed/thrown out or include all dogs. The next step is banning the breed altogether. AND I'M NOT GIVING UP MY FAMILY MEMBER! So please sign this petition and lets make Maryland ls listen to its people for once. Thank you for your time.
Legal counsel is currently reviewing the language of the ruling to identify specific clauses that violate liability standards. I am drafting a formal letter to the state representatives to request a meeting on these discriminatory breed mandates.

The reach of this petition has shifted our position to a level where formal legal counsel is now reviewing the language of the current ruling. I am preparing a draft letter for the Court of Appeals to formally request a stay on these enforcement measures. Expect details on the legal briefing schedule by the end of the week.

Fix the owners not the dogs. Pits are great family dogs if you actually treat them right.

My boy is a rescue and he is the sweetest dog I have ever owned. This law is unfair and needs to go away.

Ridiculous. Any dog can bite if they are scared or provoked. Stop picking on one breed it makes zero sense.

Dumb ruling. If my dog bites someone he is at fault just like a golden retriever would be. Laws should apply to everyone equally.
