they just announced the smelter plans are officially dead. i am honestly blown away that we actually pulled this off and kept the valley safe from all that pollution. stay sharp because we need to keep making sure they dont try to sneak this back in later.

By signing this petition, you are expressing your opposition for the development of the proposed aluminum recycling smelter by Alliance Metals, at 70050 US 60 Wenden, AZ Arizona 85357.
Your position about this project will be registered with County Officials. Some points to review.
- While this smelter will bring increased tax revenues and jobs to La Paz County, the revenues are small, the jobs are few and dangerous.
- This smelter will pollute the environment despite all of the pollution control devices that will be in place. In fact, according to ADEQ, the plant will emit 35 tons of nitrogen oxides, particulate mater, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, lead and dioxins and furans.
- The 30,000 pounds of chlorine that are to be kept on site, as per the draft permit of the ADEQ, represent a potential health hazard to the Valley and could even cause the death of thousands of people.
- Using information from the companies application and the subsequent draft permit from ADEQ, the increase in truck traffic due to this operation will hit 584 50,000 pound trucks per month.

Iam absolutely opposed to the smelter in Wenden. It is basically a toxic waste dump in the middle of our community. The hazards it presents to the entire community far outweigh any benefits. This plant is only a couple of miles from our school’s what if something should happen? It is also a ground pollutin for our ground water.
Much more than a proposed rezoning, this is a proposed social, economic and environmental re-engineering of towns and a valley with no prior heavy industry. They propose to turn McMullen Valley into Pittsburgh circa 1970. Incomprehensible.
Why not use a previously designated industrial zone for this project? Many residents of Salome & Wenden live in this area do so to reduce health ramifications exasperated by pollution. Please don’t let out small town gain a brown cloud like the one we all see when driving into Phoenix.
Inappropriate to modify the county comprehensive plan to industrial use and rezone. It is not planned as an appropriate area for industrial. Other industrial areas exist to build the plant on.
This smelter needs to be put in a industrial area and away from schools and people. I am not opposed to jobs but I am opposed to tons of toxic materials in the air near seniors, children and people with health issues. The company still has not disclosed what all the pollutants are and their draft permit didn’t list them all.

Corruption. Only logical explanation as to approving this location. What makes this Global Russian company Technocon so special. Any research on em will tell you actually the opposite. They aren't good in any country they have operated in. They hire 1 employee and a Law firm /PR group. The employee, has zero digital footprint. Extra digging reveals why he scrubbed it. These guys have been suspect from the start. Playing w the everybody and the land/water/air is dangerous. One voter has skin in the game already. Why on Earth would any supervisor approve this location? Money to line corrupt pockets?Hmmmm
