Oppose FPL\'s West County Energy Center--one of the largest Fossil Fuel Power Plants in the US!
No Everglades River of Gas!
*Will generate power for half-a-million units of new development, aiming into the Everglades Agricultural Area (500,000 homes)
*Will use 6.5 billion gallons of water a year (more than 50,000 homes worth)
*21 million gallons of wastewater injected into the ground each day; no other power plant uses this technology; nearby residents rely on well water (but not for long)
* 4,800 tons of harmful pollution per year including: SO2, NOx, COx and VOCs over a 12 mile radius
*Seminole Ridge High School is 5.5 miles away; Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge is 1000 feet away (acid rain)
*13 pounds of Mercury released into the air each year (no more fishing; 1 gram kills people)
*12 Unsightly stacks each 150 feet tall
*10 million tons of CO2 per year (ice caps at record low this year; FL is at sea level)
*12.6 million gallons of diesel fuel stored on site between 2 rock blasting pits
This is not a done deal. You Can Stop the Growth Machine!
*Sign the petition, it will be used to inform public official of community opposition.
THIS MOMENTUM IS ABSOLUTELY EXPLOSIVE AND PROVES THAT WE ARE READY TO FIGHT FOR OUR WATER AND OUR LAND!! THE GROWTH MACHINE IS FINALLY STARTING TO FEEL THE PRESSURE OF OUR UNSTOPPABLE ENERGY!!
