We, the undersigned, oppose the "shelter" killings of healthy dogs that want to live, and propose a moratorium on all dog breeding (by both professional and backyard breeders) until the shelters are empty.

Dog "shelters" are, by definition, supposed to shield dogs from harm. Yet they routinely kill healthy, robust dogs that want to live. They do this for "space". They kill dogs to empty a pen, into which they put another dog, then kill it for the same reason. There's no logic to that. None.

If there are too many dogs we need a moratorium on dog breeding - by both professional and backyard breeders - until the shelters are emptied.

Please join me by signing this petition to stop the killings and create a breeding moratorium. I'll send it to politicians throughout the United States.

Please sign now.(photo shows two dogs rescued from high kill shelter less than 2hrs before being killed)

Updates

March 24, 2024

I am currently drafting formal letters to state representatives to force this breeding moratorium onto their official agendas. Call your local representative today and tell them you want a ban on new breeding until our shelter dogs are placed in homes.

March 24, 2024

The momentum behind this campaign proves that people are fed up with these preventable deaths. Email your local representatives today and demand a breeding moratorium to empty our shelters. We have to keep this pressure on the politicians until they act.

There are solutions besides death. There is no place for ego, greed, jealousy, or political nonsense in animal welfare. Quit killing innocent living beings!

Ban breeders from causing over-population so that the amount of dogs does not so grossly exceed the amount of people who want to own them.

Too many shelters are overwhelmed and don't give an animal a chance. The true fault falls on irresponsible breeders, puppy mills and owners. Spay and neuter, adopt not shop. These poor innocent defenseless animals are born to suffer and die.

These shelters need to have longer-term plans for capacity management (other than killing) and education of the community, as well as helping to drive legislation to stop backyard breeding, hoarding and abandonment

This also should apply to cats and other pets. The government should also provide low cost spay and neuter options.

The killing is senseless, irresponsible people causing the death of an animal that has done nothing wrong.
