We, the residents of Southbury Community, petition the Boundary Advisory Committee of School District 308 and the School District 308 Board of Education, to keep the current boundaries for Southbury subdivision intact.
When Oswego CUSD 308 held its first Boundary Advisory Committee meeting on September 6th the public forum was not well represented by Southbury subdivision residents. Why would it be? The majority of us felt that the redistricting of school lines would not impact our neighborhood. After all, we are located smack in the middle of Southbury Elementary, Traughber Junior High, and Oswego High School. Moving our children from these buildings seemed so far reaching and insane that our families didn't feel the need to establish a voice on the board or attend the initial public meetings. Recent boundary proposals have shifted our outlook on this situation, and the reality is we are in serious jeopardy of being sent to Plank Middle School and Oswego East High School.
While we have a great deal of respect for those schools, we simply can't stand idle and allow these changes to occur without gathering together as one uniformed voice. Oswego East is not our community. Plank is not our community. The Southbury subdivision has been, and will always be tied to the traditions of Oswego High School. OHS and Traughber are OUR schools, they are in our backyards and we take pride in that fact. The time to stand together is now!
This petition has been created to establish a community call to action. A voice that Southbury subdivision opposes boundary changes at both the high school and junior high level. We ask that you share it, sign it, and spread the word against such changes. The Boundary Advisory Committee must understand our frustration against redistricting, they must be shown data at a high percentage that we oppose Southbury subdivision changes. This is the first step of many that we are taking together. We demand attention, and will mobilize our community under a common stance against boundary changes.
I, DEMAND that the Boundary Advisory Committee of School District 308 and the School District 308 Board of Education, cease and desist the rezoning of the Southbury subdivision.

I just looked at the screen and saw we actually hit one hundred signatures which is honestly kind of shocking because I really thought this would just be me and my neighbors whispering about it in the driveway. It is wild to see people starting to pay attention since my brain is still stuck back at that first meeting where we all assumed our school lines were safe behind a locked door.

I just checked the count and I cannot believe how fast the number is jumping up toward that next goal even though I am still stressing about the district meeting. If you have a neighbor who has not seen this yet please send it to them right now because we really need to show them how many of us are actually paying attention to this nonsense.

I was just staring at the screen and realized we are almost at a hundred signatures which is honestly kind of wild considering how quiet things were last week. If we could all just get one person in our neighborhood to sign before the next school board meeting it would really prove we are not going anywhere.

I hear our high school events from my back yard. I see the football field lights from my back yard. How can the kids go to a school farther away? I don't believe this is a smart decision for several reasons. Local community being the biggest.
my student will be a senior next year. why in the world would I want her to attend a different high school than the one she's attended for 3 years? we would seriously consider moving if the boundaries changed .
It would be crazy to split up our community. Many people bought their homes here to be close to the neighborhood schools. I do not have any children still in school but in the best interest of this communities children don't let them divide this neighborhood. Make sure to be well represented at these meetings.
It is not a good idea to break up a subdivision. Children need continuity and people who purchased homes in that subdivision purchased for the fact that the schools were in walking distance. As a realtor I can tell you that this is very harmful to their investment But especially to their children.
With my background in logistics of over twenty years, I cannot comprehend the logic of taking walking distance students and now putting them on a bus. For the school district, and usas taxpayers, this should be considered a "freebie" in that there is no taxpayer expense getting these kids to school.
We love Oswego, our neighbors and our schools. The main reason that we purchased our home in the Southbury sub-division was the schools; Southbury Elementary, Traughber middle school and OHS. We are located 1 mile from Traughber and 2 miles from Plank. We are invested in Traughber and plan for all of our children to spend their pre-teen years at that school. We live so close to OHS, that we can feel the Friday night lights during home football games. Oswego East is 3.5 miles away. Change the boundries to level load the schools. We understand that need, but please leave Southbury Subdivision as is.
I opposes to boundary changes at both the high school and junior high level. Thanks

It is not fiscally responsible to bus our children to another school when we can see the current schools from our subdivision. With the impending construction on Wolf this is also a transportation safety issue that needs to be considered.
