STOP THE PROPOSED HOMELESS SHELTER OPENING AT THE FAIRFIELD INN BY MARRIOT 5234 VAN DAM ST
We the undersigned are opposed to the proposed homeless shelter at the Fairfield Inn by Marriot at 52-34 Van Dam St., Long Island City, New York. Our community currently has 3 homeless shelters within 1.5 miles from this location, two of which are located just .2 and .5 miles from this location. The takeover of this location by NYC Department of Homeless services will replace a thriving tourist industry, affecting the revenue of several small businesses in the area, causing neighborhood residents to live in fear, and driving property values within this neighborhood to plummet. The Department of Homeless Services cannot continue to target Queens, and especially this small section of Long Island City, to bear the societal and economic burden of yet another homeless hotel in our neighborhood.

We already have 2 other shelters in the area. Seems like a sweetheart deal between Hotel owners and the City.
You need to spread out the homeless shelters. .2 and .5 miles from this location is destroying the neighborhood. That many in a short distance will destroy any neighborhood. Im sure there are other location in the 5 bouroughs that can host the shelter
Homeless people need access to services such as clinics, transportation and other vital services that can help them. Ling Island City lacks appropriate services and is therefore not a suitable location.
Put our tax dollars to better work. Find actual affordable housing options vs allowkng hotels to charge tax payers their standard rates to shelter our homeless
The mayor forgets he works for us. This would be bad for the tourism’s and the economy in our area. LETS STOP THIS
It's done homeless are already moving to the property lately.

There is ONE police precinct for all of Long Island City and Sunnyside. There are many women who work in the neighborhood late and would be sitting ducks for sex offenders. Not to mention there is no transportation around here either.
