Stop the proposed cycle lane on Stamfordham road

It’s all about government incentives for councils that open up cycle lanes. I can understand why a cycle lane could help to increase fitness, and reduce traffic and pollution, however Stamfordham Rd is the wrong place for one with traffic congestion already being a problem.

A crazy and expensive proposal which will create even more congestion and spoil the village in particular with all the increased traffic from the extensive surrounding house building. Totally ridiculous idea and waste of critical resources from one of the most expensive council tax areas in the city.

I have lived in Westerhope for 63 years. Tearing trees it up to make a concrete cyclepath is terrible and unnecessary damage to the environment.

I am opposed to this plan due to the destruction of the natural wildlife and trees in the immediate area.

What a stupid idea, how many people do you see riding bikes in that area, killing important trees for the environment, has this council ran out of ideas on how to waste tax payers money..

This is yet another brain dead idea from NCC, I thought we were supposed to be a green area. This is the same council who told us they were putting a road from the new houses at Callerton to the Weatsheaf / Airport area to help with the congestion of over 3000 homes they allowed to be build on productive farmland which was a disgrace. It is ridiculous that they now want to cause even more congestion with a cycle lane which to be fair won’t be used that much. We don’t have hundreds of cyclists who use this road daily so it’s just going to cause more traffic congestion and then emissions will be higher from standing traffic. If I think about it that may be their agenda so they can then charge us for more emissions as NCC just want to make us pay more and more to them every year. Let’s hope they are kicked out in the local elections and we get councillors in who actually love the area and want to protect our green spaces. Stop trying to keep cutting down trees and tarmac everything.

The roads in the village can’t cope as it is. We can’t lose the trees that have been there for decades.

No need for more cycle lanes in Newcastle

Cycle lanes are never used by cyclists as they say all the road debris ends in the lane. Don’t waste money on this. Cycles can’t be used for regular travel to work - we don’t have infrastructure and lifestyle like those in popular cycle countries like Netherlands. Waste of money trying to put cycle lanes in.

We don't need cycling lanes there aren't enough cyclists to justify them also why destroy our beautiful village

insane as per normal from the council to appease a handful of people and create more misery on paying road users
