A waste of money for the number of cyclists using this road. That money could be used to improve policing and support for our vulnerable residents. Plus the impact to the environment is too high. Let us keep our trees before our village looks like a car park.

Trees and the environment are more important than a cycle lane that nobody wants or needs.

Traffic is already difficult on this route. Another unused cycle lane will not help at all

I'm signing this petition because, as many people have already mentioned, the trees are very important for the control of CO² from the excessive traffic that runs through (you know, the carbon footprint that Ed Milliband was so hell bent on reducing)... But, I would also like to know, who's idea is this and how much of a back hander are they getting for this ridiculous idea..?

Beautiful trees and birds or bicycles. Why spoil the environment for a few bicycles. It really doesn't make sense !

The environment needs trees. We need trees.

This is not my area but I can see no benefit in chopping down healthy trees for a cycle lane, surely in terms of the environment it is counter productive?

Surely we should be planting more trees not taking them down for a cycle lane which more than likely will not be used due to the amount of traffic on this road now. An accident waiting yo happen. Terrible idea which should be stopped before it starts.

Save the trees! They add natural beauty to our neighbourhood and one of the reasons why we moved here was because of the tree lined streets as it gives that homely village feel. These trees are so incredibly important for the wildlife in the area - it’s their home too. I’m a cyclist and manage perfectly fine without a cycle lane.

The reason is,a)£8,000,000+is a lot of money to be spent on some silly councillors vanity project,b)if as many cyclists use the said cycle lane, that uses the very expensive lanes on DELEVAL RD,TO CONDERCUM RD,then that I'm sorry to say will be a massive waste of money, and c)it will be a huge inconvenience for not only the PEOPLE OF WESTERHOPE but also to the thousands of people that travel through from surrounding areas.

Not enough trees to start with & cutting these diwn will spoil the whole look of this road. We do not need a cycle path not enough cycles on the roads. Fill potholes instead

We need more trees not less. This proposal is just lazy planning .

We need to reverse the trend of ripping up greenery for the sake of hitting cycle lane targets or similar. This development would blight the area.

Can you not make a cycle lane with out taking out all those trees…. They are mature and help the environment

This seems to be far from best use of funds to improve the worsening traffic situation and it feels like all focus should be on additional access roads for the new housing developments which I believe were originally part of the plans.

I strongly object to the removal of trees which are then to be replace by tarmac. This is environmentally wrong. Also, considering the state of most roads in the Newcastle area, which are not fit for purpose, then should the funding not start with the repair of what is already there.

We need more trees to be planted not chopping down the ones that are already established!
