I have lived in this area for 58 years and these trees are part of the character and identity of Stamfordham Road. They are mature, established trees that provide much-needed greenery, shade and cleaner air, helping absorb pollution from a busy road and providing a home for wildlife. Removing them for an unnecessary cycle lane is a total joke. I rarely see cyclists using this road. This feels like waste, greed and needless destruction. Please stop this and protect our trees.

Stamfordham Rd is original due to the massive amount of beautiful trees we have, that are hosts to a large majority of bird life, take them away and birds have to look further for food. Plus, this Rd is synonymous with large amounts of regular emergency vehicles, why have a bicycle lane that could slow down these vehicles!? There are plenty alternative routes for bicycle lanes, yes possibly a slightly nger and I mean slightly longer route but why spoil a beautiful tree lined road for a few cycli

The trees need to be saved they are integral to the character of the road and clean the air.

I do nkt agree with cutting trees down so that we can get extra asphalt or pavement path on. This is horrofic. We need to protect trees especially in urban areas.

I dont want the trees to be cut down. The village should be left alone.

We need more trees not less. Certainly do not need anymore cycle lanes that are rarely used

There is no need for cycle lanes in our city we don’t have the amount of people cycling to warrant them - look no further than Gosforth or outside the RVI hardly ever see anyone using them . It’s a waste of money and surely could be out to better use!

This is a patently ridiculous idea. Cyclists are protected by the rules of the road and trees in verges are part of highway planning combating both noise and carbon emissions, while improving environment and aesthetics. To remove these trees in order to build something that will barely be used and only benefit I tiny minority of residents is absurd.

The cyclists will still use the road.

Newcastle council! Sort the potholes and overgrown weeds first please, cycle lane is not needed and not wanted.

It will take away the character of the village

A cycle lane in Westerhope is unnecessary and unwanted. It will be used by few to the detriment of many.

This will spoil the look of the village and not a lot of cyclists ride through Westerhope. As a triathlete, I have never felt unsafe riding through Westerhope. No need for a cyclist lane as traffic travels slow with pedestrian crossings along Stamfordham Road.
