Trees are so important and cutting them down to please a minority of cyclists is nothing more than sacrilege. Newcastle City Council have lost the plot!

Cutting down trees in a residential area to put in a cycle lane that won’t get used is outrageous

I am totally opposed to the idea of a cycle lane. What evidence is there that a cycle lane is needed. In my experience they are rarely used in any great numbers in areas where they have already been installed. Apart from the obvious environmental issues, I think felling trees will have a detrimental effect on the village as a whole.

This is a village and should remain a village. Chopping down the trees for a handful of bicycles a week is ludicrous and a waste of funds. Disgraceful idea.

Crazy idea. Use money in more productive way. Also congestion of stamfordham rd & closures etc will be horrendous (along with central motorway, Gateshead flyover …)

This is very important to me because we desperately need the trees to not only help us with cleaning the air but also to help keep our streets a few degrees cooler because of the hot temperatures we are having. It has been proved that streets with trees lining it can help to keep it cooler than streets without trees. That trumps any cycle lanes in my view. I am very angry that they think they can do what they want.

We need trees to help combat climate change, a scientific fact. Having come from London where cycle lanes have been put in at a great expense.they are hardly used andvthe monies expunged could have been used elsewhere

As a cyclist this is not a route I would ever use. The removal of trees, which perform a vital function for air quality is contrary to the councils regime of improving air quality.

Stamfordham road does not get the volume of cycles to warrant a lane, especially at the expense of mature trees which have a significant benefit to the environment
Don't do it simple ..
