In 2004 as a Westerhope councillor we carried out improvements through Westerhope Village to reintroduce grass verges, to plant new trees and overall improve the area. Twenty two years later the trees that were planted at the time have matured well. The Council 14 years ago promised a link road from the A69 to the A696 to pull traffic away from Westerhope Village. It also committed to massive investment in public transport - neither have materialised.

It is so important as trees are fantastic for the environment as it helps with car pollution aswell as wildlife ,birds ,

Because it's a disgrace cutting trees down for cyclists that pay no road tax or insurance

Environmentally, it is important to retain the well established, mature trees. They are an important habitat for birds and insects and provide needed shelter from hot sun.

Trees are supposed to be protected. There’s absolutely no demand for cycle lanes there. Everyone should sign this and absolutely refuse to allow them to be removed.

Feel this is totally unnecessary in this area. With new estates built there was promise of improving roads to cope with more traffic this cycle lane would add to more congestion on a relatively busy road

The mess and expense for very little, if any gain, isn't acceptable

Most cycle lanes in the City are unused, so we don’t need anymore. We know trees are good for the environment and help with Global warming so leave them alone

Westerhope is a village not a town people still like to live in leafy villages with character not urban monstrosities

Trees are essential for the environment and mopping up CO2 which helps in the fight against global warming.

Trees are essential to help with climate change and global warming, plus as someone who uses this road all the time there is no need for a cycle lane as there are no cyclists or very very very few. This would destroy the village and create a concrete urban environment

I live in Westerhope and want to enjoy the trees and the original wall that are a fundamental part of the character and history of the village and area over the years. Our children and my grandchildren need more trees and greenery, the air and the health and wellbeing of the area is especially important. We don’t ride bikes on roads but we breathe the air and enjoy the trees. I suspect many others living in Westerhope do too- more than the people who ride bikes on these ridiculously busy roads.

Trees are far more important to this area than a cycle lane. The hundreds of new build houses in this area have taken up green field space

The council are total Hippocrates when it comes to our trees, they felled 2 beautiful flowering cherry trees in my street on Chapel House without warning or giving good reason. It was heartbreaking for the whole street.

We should be planting more trees not felling established ones. More folk will benefit from the beautiful aesthetic they create than the few cyclists who will use it.

Trees should not be removed for cycle lanes that are of no benefit and that will never be used.
