Take a look at Gosforth or anywhere else with cycle lanes are; they are hardly used, and certainly not enough to warrant the choppimg down of trees which are habitat for a whole host of diverse wildlife. Yet supporters of this type of destruction claim to care about the enviorment !

Because it’s the absolute height of craziness to destroy trees that have taken so long to grow and provide us with so much

We cannot continue to lose our greenery in our local areas. It’s a complete travesty that the council would take away something that adds value to a community. We will be living in a polluted environment before long if they continue to do this

Leave the village alone! Enough green spaces have been destroyed locally, and there are too many obsolete cycle lanes in the city as it is. Money should be better spent elsewhere!

If this was Ponteland, the trees would be protected by a TPO. Surely the environmental benefit of these trees outweighs that of a cycle path!

Why spoil the village by taking down beautiful, ancient trees that should be protected for a cycle lane nobody wants or needs 🤷🏼♀️

Why do you have to cut the trees down, home to so many living creatures. Total waste of taxpayer’s money

Barely used cycle lanes are leading to traffic congestion everywhere which only increases pollution. To additionally lose mature trees in the process is ridiculous. Schemes like this speed up climate change.

Trees are more important to carbon emissions than cyclists , cycling is seasonal transport in this country and does not warrant the money spent on cycling infrastructure

We need our trees, not more tarmac. We need greenery to keep us cool. We do not need our cities covered over
