Opposing perimeter fencing of Thursley, Elstead, Royal Ockley and Bagmoor Commons. Protecting the interests of horse riders, dog walkers, residents, cyclists, walkers and all who currently enjoy the Open Space of these commons now under threat from Surrey Wildlife Trust Ltd.’s enclosure plans. This petition is part of a campaign by TERRACE: Thursley & Elstead Residents and Riders Against Commons Enclosures. It is not anti-conservation. It is about trying to get a balance between public access and conservation. SWT Ltd.’s plan is excessively weighted to an unproven conservation methodology, to the serious detriment of public access and public enjoyment of Open Space.

I never imagined this conversation would reach so many people who care as much as I do about keeping our trails open. It is truly your passion and your stories about these commons that keep this movement moving forward.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people care about keeping these commons open and accessible for everyone. It is humbling to see so many of you standing together to protect this space when I honestly expected this to stay a quiet local concern. This momentum belongs to all of you who stepped up to defend our shared landscape.

Can we not find a balance between conservation and allowing the public to enjoy these areas. Self closing gates are dangerous and inpractical to riders, and will certainly deter some riders from using the bridlepaths! Unfair!

Keep our commons open! My dogs love running here and a fence would totally change the landscape. Not happy about this at all.

Total madness. The gates are going to be a nightmare to deal with on a bike. SWT needs to listen to the people who actually use this land every day.

Ridiculous idea. We need access to these commons. Stop putting up fences everywhere.

I have ridden these commons for over 20 years. Fencing it all off is just plain wrong and will ruin the whole experience for us and our horses. Leave it open!
