As a mother of two swimmers, I stand with all the athletics who sacrificed so much to participate in a collegiate sport. I am shocked and disappointed with UB untimely cancellation. There certainly could have been options before robbing dreams from your current athletes and your upcoming freshman. Shame on UB.

As an alumni of UB (1985) I am sad and disappointed by the university's decision to cut these sports. As the aunt of both a UB senior and a freshman who is on the women's crew team, my heart is broken over this decision. Certainly there can be cuts made elsewhere that could allow these sports to continue. These sports mean more to the students than you can imagine. Money, lifestyle, emotional stability. Please reconsider. Find the money. Please.

Outrageous!! Horrible for these athletes! Their whole lives have revolved around their sport and to have their team dissolve without warning is unacceptable

Why, after making the announcement, did the president and athletic director state they had other meetings and just left the athletes without making themselves available to answer questions? Why does the football team have to stay in a hotel for home games? Why does the university have to host concerts for every home football game? Does a 126th ranked football team really need an 18 million dollar field house? Seems like a lot of money can be saved by doing away with unnecessary wasteful spending.

It's not right to cut a sport in April when swimmers have applied there and committed to swim for you.

UB should explore other options to raise more revenue in order to save these programs. This looks like an easy way out without attempting to try ways to save money and/or bring in more revenue.

What I have witnessed is a gross injustice, a discriminatory act pitting the aspirations of a University few against those of her own students/athletes. Who holds the UB hierarchy accountable for their wanton approach to spending of state monies to continually pursue their “vision”, and their “vision” alone? Where does the fiscal responsibility lie? With the Athletic Director, who would leave their post in a heartbeat should the ACC or SEC knock on their door. Or, with the University President, who would do same should the Ivy’s begin to flourish. Exactly who or what reputations are the student/athletes building? The egos of the few, to bolster their perceived marketability, and, as we know from past experiences, would simply use the University as a mere stepping stone, or the University’s, as ardent supporters of all the school, the City of Buffalo and Western New York have to offer. It’s unfortunate for those student/athletes, who have spent a majority of their years striving to achieve their dreams, to have their accomplishments unceremoniously taken away by those whose short-sighted visions reward the few and disregard the whole. I for one share with all parents of those students/athletes, both past, present and future, the betrayal and distrust that we have endured this past week. As for Allen and Satish, now they can truly take their football and basketball and go home. Maybe, just maybe, they’ll let the student/athletes, whose dreams were just derailed, decide which ball they can take. Mike Juszczak
