The port authority confirmed today that all cruise vessel waste offloading will cease effective immediately. We achieved this move by maintaining constant pressure on the waste facility management team regarding their local impact. I will monitor the municipal policy shifts to ensure this prohibition remains permanent.

Every cruise ship that comes into Victoria is offloading 98% of their foreign garbage. 150 tons a month goes into our landfill.
Vancouver Island does not have the infrastructure to deal with all the recyclables and most are shipped to the mainland and State of Washington.
Why is Vancouver Island the dumping grounds for this industry? Help stop this practice.

I have requested a formal meeting with the city waste management board to discuss current offloading protocols. My team is preparing a brief on operational capacity that will be delivered to local representatives later this week.

Why do we have to store garbage from the US? Surely the ships are big enough that it can be taken back ?
Why would we be responsible for international garbage when our landfill is having a difficult time handling our own garbage. Also if garbage is shipped to Vancouver or Washington State why not offload it in Vancouver or Washington State. Using Ogden Point doesn't seem to make much sense either economical or environmentally.
It is unacceptable to fill BC Landfills with foreign garbage. The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority has failed the residents of Victoria (and BC)!
We do not have the resources here to dispose of this. It seems ineffective to unload it here and then barge it to the mainland.
we live on another island part of each year, and have had to stop recycling all but newpapers and glass bottles, because it became too expensive to ship plastics, etc to mainland for processing- will happen in Victoria, too- do NOT LET THIS HAPPEN

With increases in housing development, our current landfill will expire soon. We just don't have room for foreign garbage.
