This
petition has been started to demand that the ministers of the government of the
Cayman Islands take seriously the health, economic, and environmental hazard
that is the George Town Landfill. The dump has been studied and analyzed
repeatedly with no ministers in the current government willing to make the
tough decisions required of them to resolve this horrendous blemish on the
beautiful island of Grand Cayman. We request that the current government face
the reality that the continued use of the George Town Landfill site is no longer a viable
option. We do not request that the dump simply be moved in its current state to
another part of the island but that a modern high tech waste management
facility be built on another site while the current site is capped. This is the
only financially and environmentally viable option. The people of this island
deserve a Dump Free Cayman. Cayman has offered the world so much through the tourism
and financial industries but has offered the citizens and residents of this
beautiful country no resolutions to a very solvable problem. We deserve better. The dump poses health risks in the form of
ground and air pollution, environmental risks in the form of pollution running
into the North Sound, economic risks in the form of lost tourism reputation and
drop in housing markets in the George Town and Seven Mile Beach areas. We deserve
better. If you agree that this problem should be the top priority of the
current government and that they should stop talking and start actively solving
this problem join us by signing this petition for a Dump Free Cayman. We
deserve better.
Can the govt afford this. Probably not. Dart has the most economic solution the the dump problem, remediate the old site and build a state of the are waste management facility. and if it is managed correctly there will be no fires or smell
