Stop the proposed Craigleith Depot Library Expansion, which will cost Blue Mountain Taxpayers at least $6,5 Million to start, another $300,000/year, and create a completely unnecessary 8500 SF building on the outskirts of town. Much larger towns like Collingwood, Meaford, Owen Sound and Wasaga Beach have one library each, we do not need another one. The planned expansion will not serve the vast majority of Blue Mountains residents, who already have a centrally located library, and the proposed library expansion is much closer to Collingwood residents and schools than to those in Blue Mountains. The money which is planned for this expansion could be much better allocated to a rec centre, affordable housing, transportation system, or many other uses to be decided upon by Blue Mountains residents and their representatives.

Updates

February 11, 2019

The current level of support confirms that residents reject this expenditure. I am now preparing a formal brief to present these findings during the upcoming council session.

Given the pressing issues of the town which are classified as determinants of health such as: affordable housing, transportation, access to healthcare, etc. Funds for an expansion of the Craigleith Depot is not an appropriate ‘ask’ or ‘allocation’ of our tax dollars. Added to this is the uncertainty of the future if the expansion of hwy 26. Hopefully, the current council unlike ones before will consider this ask in the context of the ‘bigger’ picture and not solely within the context of the corner of Hwy 26 and Grey Road 19.

I live within walking distance to the Depot but would still go to the Collingwood library even if they built it. A gargantuan waste of resources. I am stunned that a smart person would have proposed this idea

We need a REC centre. No one uses the depot, it is always empty. I drive by 3-4 times a day. Not sure 6.5 M will bring the crowds. Spend the money where it is needed/wanted.

We have a library in Thornbury & Collingwood. Money could be better spent on affordable housing, I think !!!

Totally unnecessary and a waste of taxpayer dollars. There is no mandate to do this. The money would be better allocated to affordable housing for which there is a desperate need.

Money could be put to much better use.

Would certainly like the Depot to be maintained as it is a part of our collective history BUT not the expansion they are talking about. Transportation i.e. buses should be the priority and along with that affordable housing alternatives which seem to go together

Other priorities in town are needed, adorable housing should be first on the list
