Dear Fanindra Raj Kharel (Director General of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation),

We the undersigned have some core concerns regarding the recent proposal to amend the 'Working Policy on Wild Animal Faming, Breeding and Research' portion of the National Park and Wildlife Act. While there is merit in the concept, of increasing job opportunities and the income of rural households. There are some fundamental issues that we believe should be considered before the finial decision is made, including:

  • Its is vital to consider excluding critically endangered, endangered and threatened species from the list.
  • The trade in animals and their parts must not be included as this will allow for wildlife crime to continue and increase in some of Nepal's most vulnerable species
  • The current policy has little to no regulations or even an attached regulatory body, this may have considerable implications if critically endangered, endangered and threatened species remain on the list of approved species.
