Following the current Government's amendment to the Wildlife Act, the Director-General of Conservation will have the ability to enable companies to kill kiwi and other native wildlife if they are seen as obstructing infrastructure and resource-based projects such as roads, mines or dams.

As a collective, we need to fight against this. Aotearoa's wildlife are some of the richest and most important parts of what makes us as a nation, on top of the importance of looking after them as they can't look after themselves. A human threat towards native wildlife should not be permissible; hence, this petition advocates for entrenching the protection of Native NZ Birds in legislation. This includes repealing the latest amendment made, and entrenching the Wildlife Act in legislation.

This is just shameful. Why are we prioritising mines over our own national symbol? The kiwi needs protection not a death sentence.
