The construction of the school does not belong in a residential area. There is already enough traffic due to residents living amongst the area and others facilitating the use of Cherokee park. You could be risking the lives of children by placing a school in such an area. Also, the concept of the school is illogical. No college will deem this school as creditable.

This intense school (commercial) use does not belong in this residential part of Alta Vista. It will adversely effect property values and will definitely create hazardous conditions on the roadway. The school would greatly increase traffic on an already heavily travelled, small roadway. The school's entrance/exit is right at a blind hill and curve.
Granted, there are other properties on the street that are used for school and/or church purposes, but they are not part of the obvious residential portion of the neighborhood. Also, the other properties have a greater set back from the road and from the residential portion.
Having a school at this property is a bad idea on many levels, and it will adversely effect the neighborhood.

I am vehemently against using this residential property for a school of any kind. The street won't support the heavy traffic. It is a busline and a thoroughfare for the Highlands neighbors to get to Lexington Road and I64. The police and fire dept. also use this road for the previously mentioned reasons. A commercial property would be a better location for this school.

To quote the article about the school recently in the Courier Journal
" Students will have a say in important decisions, like whether to allocate funds to build a science lab or retain a particular staff member, as part of Sudbury's democratic model." So I guess we can assume that's the way the students homes are run too--the students have an equal say about family decisions like finances--where their parents' paychecks will be spent. And I guess the students have completely lax rules in the home like no set dinner time or bed time. And on and on. The school must sign a financial agreement for any damages for any wrongdoing by any of the students who hurt or damage the residents and/or their property. To put this "school" on a residential street where many residents have lived for 40 + years is absolutely outrageous! How can this be allowed to happen? Together you all can stop this. I don't live there but my good friend does. This is wrong.

Hi Kim -- agree that change isn't always bad and agree that the school may produce some intellectual students. However, while the school cites 65-85 students, they also acknowledge that they would like it to grow to 200+. 65 is doable for the street (kind of) -- 200 is not.

Why not, change is good. These kids will be intellectual , creative, motivated and learn to grow etc. They won't be roaming neighborhood. Car pools are a way to solve problem. Really it's only 65 kids.
Tolerance. Makes for better learning to be responsible. Sorry you all who feel control instead of trust is a good teaching tool. No wonder this world is full of non achievers

I think they could find a more appropriate place for their school. First and 2ND tier neighbors need to organize and oppose the conditional use permit at BOZA hearing. Get a lawyer to advise you.

So anyone can build a school at any time? And there's no curriculum, no tests, no accountability, no diplomas? And they collect $10,000 annually per child and get to be a non-profit and don't have to pay taxes? Heck, why don't we all just build schools then! This "school" is a joke -- how you are required to send you kid to school and this passes as a "school" is beyond me.

Our greatest concerns are the increased traffic on a narrow road and blind curve. The residence was designed as a single family home. The school plans to have 200 students. This is unsafe. We are very much apposed to this plan.
