My husbund settled his Cellc acc (zero balance) in 2009. We came there just before closing time. The cashier said they are off-line but he'll capture it in the morning.
In 2013 we started getting calls & emails saying we owe over R4000 to attorneys due to account being handed over?!
Asked them for a statement from 2009 to prove that the cellphone account was not used since the payment and we asked the staff to close the account. We were at fault for not taking the cashier's name because we thought it's a reputable store and the staff would be honest...
Now my husband has a poor credit record but Cellc still didn't provide proof that the account was used after the balance was paid in full.

Stop these monsters who bend the rule to suck the poor and distressed. These days it seems people study law to screw others and this case is a mere cheating without understanding why the guy defaulted. May god show these idiots the power of time and karma.

They're not the only dept collecting company who does this. The problem here is that no matter how much you publicly shame them they just keep on getting business and making it.
