I have walked this beach hundreds of times, Kayaked with many across it more times than I can remember. My daughter and her friends have ridden their horses up and down it, all our kids have jumped off the bridge and swam in the pristine waters. I have watched thousands swim here: many receiving their swimming lessons and life saving swimming skills and qualifications. I have watched hundreds of people wander across the pristine sands between the island and Belcruit/Kincasslagh enjoying the cleanliness of this small part of heaven.
I know hundreds of people who have visited; stayed and holidayed on Cruit and the one common feeling/experience that all have commented on is the natural beauty of the beaches and coastline of the island.
I have also seen the filthy and dirty appearance that this type of aquaculture brings to areas like Carrickfinn and Murvagh.
People and oyster farming are not compatible. You will not see people swimming or undertaking other healthy pastimes near the structures used for this type of farming. For the benefit of a few thousands will be adversely affected.
I have seen dolphins cruise in from Kincasslagh across this sound. If this plan goes ahead you won't see that again. Cruit islands main product is tourism. Many earn from this. With B+B's (several overlooking this beach), Golf (because of its natural beauty), Holiday lettings (because of the beautiful unspoilt outdoors), Water based activities (these will cease). This proposal would impact the livelihood of many.
Michael Creed will have to reverse this decision. Stop the Oyster farm and aquaculture at Cruit and Keadue.

Please block any development in this sensitive area. Being an Australian Citizen, the mistakes of the Australian Government have made in relation to the Great Barrier Reef testify to areas that once they are lost, can never be recovered.

How can this beautiful area be destroyed for private gain. Is there no Environmental Impact Study done? if not who not?and how can the permission be given without it??

I holiday regularly on Cruit Island and am a member of the golf club there. It is a place of formidable beauty and this development is catastrophic for such a jewel of a tourist destination. This occurred without any consultation with local people and people such as I who have a holiday house there. Shane on the politician who agreed to this!

The Department of the Marine can't be allowed to continue granting licences based on dubious information. How did this not require an Environmental Impact Statement? It's good that there is still time left to appeal. That can't be said for all of the other licences granted over the past few years where the need for public consultation was conveniently avoided by the Minister signing a waiver. There has to be transparency and accountability.

You cannot destroy such a beautiful land. It is a shame to waste land such as this whuch families have come and spent here. Not only that, think of the wildlife this is going to effect, birds, fish, crabs and many more. This cannot be allowed, it will make less tourist spots ultimately damaging the economy. I think this should not be allowed and if it does go ahead then shame on you. Think of the manys of species you will be destroying, and the beautiful landscape, does that not effect you in anyway? If it doesnt that is heartless. I hope this comment has made you rethink of your opinion.

An oyster farm would be disastrous for this area - wildlife and tourism!

The natural beauty of this area should be feresely protected and also protection of this area where children can freely play and make many happy memories should be a priority. If children are happy growing up here they are more likely to want to remain there as adults and bring their own children up on the island thus maintaining a family community. An oyster farm will restrict freedom to explore all areas, spoil the beauty of the island bring very little employment and put tourists like myself off visiting.

Please stop this oyster farm. It will spoil one of the most beautiful spots on the island and in my opinion one of the most beautiful spots in Ireland. Listen to the people!
