Dear Baltimore City Liquor License Board: As residents of the Federal Hill/South Baltimore neighborhood, we are writing to oppose the recent petition of Ms. Betsy Homer, et. al. In our opinion, this reflects an unfortunate pattern of obstructionist tactics by some residents of Federal Hill. In recent years, Federal Hill has seen the filing of a frivolous lawsuit against a local magic bar, vehement opposition to angle parking, and even objections to solar panels for the Maryland Science Center. Protesting the renewal of liquor licenses for 17 locals bars and restaurants in this manner is not an appropriate tactic in our view. Federal Hill has a long and vital history as a center of nightlife, street festivals and entertainment. Violations by individual wrongdoers should be addressed instead through cooperative planning and stepped-up enforcement by the police department.
