We want independent businesses to thrive in this area and its not going to happen if the ‘big boys’ trample over the small independents.
Make these landlords that own the buildings keep our shops for real people and not to the faceless corporate people that ruin our high streets.

The momentum is undeniable. People are finally waking up to the threat facing our local high streets.

I totally agree with this petition. Our small but thriving community does not need any more supermarkets Charity shops or coffee shops. Southsea has a village atmosphere which needs individual businesses to keep the area alive and thriving.
Southsea is a very special shopping treat because of all the small independent shops there and the huge variety. Southsea is Southsea because of these shops. There are enough high street shops elsewhere so please leave Southsea alone and stop trying to make it like every other boring shopping area.
The smaller independent shops / businesses which bring the uniqueness to Southsea are slowly being being strangled into closure by not only the sterile multi-conglomerates but also by the greed of property landlords and city councils alike.
The character of Southsea is in serious danger of being severely compromised.....we must support our Independant traders. The voices of Southsea must be heard in this matter!!
Support our independent businesses, we have so much to lose with the dockyard closing. These big stores can come and go as they please but we need to hold on to the local

We do not want all towns to look the same...NO to national chains taking the heart out of our towns
