The city finally committed to enforcing these policies and clearing the sidewalks in our neighborhoods. I am exhausted from this fight but grateful we held our ground. Now we keep watching to ensure these rules actually stay in place.

Final supporters
We the citizens of Portland, OR, and specifically the neighborhoods of SE Portland (Buckman, Laurelhurst, Sunnyside, Mount Tabor, Hawthorne, Ladds Additon,Kerns) demand that our elected Mayor and City Commissioners enforce our Laws that prohibit Tent Camping on sidewalks, public areas, and in our parks. Also we expect strong enforcement of the Safe Sleep policy for homeless people sleeping on sidewalks to be off these areas between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM.

We hit one hundred signatures today. It is exhausting to see how much work remains to make our sidewalks passable again but this confirms I am not the only one struggling with the situation in our neighborhoods.

I believe the City needs to make a decision to support its citizens, its businesses and its police force in regard to the camping issue. It's beyond time for a solid, strong, mature decision to be made and then the power given back to the police to enforce that decision. Where is our leadership at City Hall?
Between the trash (including needles) left in the street and sidewalk, the nightly yelling by "campers" and the fear to park and or walk to my home when I arrive late from work, or my neighbors and their children- something must be done to remove the people camping on se 17th Ave between Morrison & Belmont.
The laws should not favor one population over another. As a homeowner, I am not allowed to block the sidewalk with my furniture nor litter indiscriminately, nor defecate in my neighbors' bushes. We are only willing to shoulder a percentage of this emergency ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER NEIGHBORHOOD!
20 Tents camping on SE Oak Street, and one person slept on our front porch again, leaving beautiful porch swing pillows and a king-size hand-knitted afghan. I've left two cell phone messages last week -- have yet to file a report.
We live in Buckman and my high school daughter can't walk to the bus stop because of tents, mattresses and people laying on the sidewalk. No other city I've lived in allows this situation. Please enforce the laws we are all supposed to be living by.
So sick of the encampments - I don’t feel safe to come downtown to go clubbing or and between clubs anymore.
Enough is enough! What the hell is even happening here?!

Yes! This is desperately needed. It's possible to help and feel compassion for people whose lives have spun out of control and still not let them take advantage of us and ruin our city. Everyone should be expected to follow the rules, no matter who they are.
