The rates are finally being rolled back after this long fight. I am completely drained but relieved we forced them to act. We have to keep watching the bills closely to ensure this change holds.

WE, the residents of West Hempstead who have no choice other than to purchase water for our homes from New York American Water, and who pay rates substantially higher than those who get their water from municipal water systems, demand the right to choose who provides our water, just as customers have the right to choose from among other utilities such as telephone, cable, electric, gas and oil. Compare our rates with municipal water companies and you will see that NY American Water customers pay MULTIPLES more than others, such as West Hempstead and Hicksville municipal water customers do - and we have no choice in the matter. That is unacceptable. We respectfully but adamantly insist that you, as our elected representative, champion this cause for us. Thank you.

Seeing this momentum grow feels like a small light in a very long tunnel. I am exhausted by the constant battle against these rates but seeing so many of you acknowledge the unfairness keeps me moving forward.

how is this even legal? we cant switch providers and they know it so they just keep hiking the bill up.
