Petition to Constitute or Reconstitute the Board of Directors of the Water Authority of Southeastern Nassau County. The undersigned residents request that the Town of Hempstead and Town of Oyster Bay immediately appoint members to the board of directors of the Water Authority of Southeastern Nassau County. Three appointments should be made by the Town of Hempstead and two appointments should be made by the Town of Oyster Bay. This board should then immediately meet and perform its duties under New York State Public Authorities Law, Title 7-A, § 1174, known as the Water Authority of Southeastern Nassau County Act (the “Act”), which includes analyzing a public takeover of Aqua America, Inc. (“Aqua”) and creation of a public water district in the areas currently serviced by Aqua (the “district”). Acting to make such appointments will: 1. Adhere to New York Public Authority Law, Title 7-A, § 1174-d; 2. Constitute or Reconstitute the board of directors for the Water Authority of Southeastern Nassau County under the Act; 3. Require the board to initiate investigation, analysis and evaluation of various options for the distribution of water in the district including a takeover of Aqua in Nassau County; 4. Allow for a takeover of Aqua and establishment of a public water district if an investigation into the feasibility of a public acquisition of Aqua’s Nassau County operations proves beneficial to residents currently being serviced by Aqua.

The quiet from local officials regarding these appointments remains frustrating but expected. I have been spending my time reviewing the legal requirements of the Act to ensure our arguments are airtight when we finally get a seat at the table. This is a deliberate process and your persistence keeps the pressure where it needs to be.

The momentum we have built reflects a genuine desire to see our water infrastructure managed with the accountability of a public authority. This shift in public attention demonstrates that our neighbors are ready for a serious inquiry into how their water is governed and supplied.

GET IT DONE. My bill is literally double what my friends pay in other towns. Aqua is a total joke.

Been hearing about this for years. Stop stalling and put people on the board who actually care about the residents.

Sick of the excuses. We need a public water authority now.

Enough with these crazy water bills. Nobody should pay this much just to take a shower. Take it over already.

The rates are just absurd. How can a basic utility be this expensive? Taxpayers are getting fleeced.
