Citizens in tax area 125 currently lie within the Prairie Township Fire District and are paying for and receiving that service. Citizens are also paying Greenwood City a tax levy of .5833 for Fire and Ambulance. Only the state is able to change the fire district and until that changes the residents are, by state law, covered by Prairie Township Fire District. Residents within area 125 paying into Greenwood City Fire and Ambulance should not be paying for a service that is not being provided, as Prairie FD is our legal fire protection provider.

Reaching this point has been an exhausting uphill climb but seeing this level of support reminds me why we started. We are being double charged for a service that is already covered and this momentum proves that I am not the only one who has had enough.

Enough is enough. I have been paying these taxes for years and we get the same service from Prairie regardless. Stop taking our money for stuff we already pay for elsewhere.

How is this legal? My property taxes are high enough without paying twice for the exact same coverage. Fix this city hall.

Hello "Anonymous" I'm not sure of the situation you are referring to. If you have questions please let me know and I can help explain how we got here and the paths forward.

Anyone can look at this and see that we are unfairly getting double taxed for no additional services. This use to be a golf course and now it’s a up and coming residential development. There needs to be a greater discussion and analysis as to why someone on the street across from us is exempt from paying double.
