The Surface Transportation Board has formally denied the application for the Great Lakes Basin Railroad. This result secures the land in Winnebago County against development and concludes our formal opposition effort. We will monitor the local land records to ensure no new filings emerge.

Winnebago County Citizens against the Great Lakes Basin Railroad Development

Updates

Reached 500 supporters

October 2, 2016

The volume of support has effectively secured our position to request a formal meeting with the County Board. My legal council is currently drafting the official correspondence to ensure our concerns are entered into the public record.

October 1, 2016

We are approaching 500 signatures before our scheduled briefing with the county planning board. This threshold is necessary to demonstrate the scale of local opposition when we present our formal legal brief.

We are approaching one hundred signatures which provides the threshold needed to formally request a meeting with the county board. Please ensure your network has signed today so we have the leverage required to challenge this development project. I am drafting the official letter of opposition now.

I don't want to ruin our farm lands. They will be closing roads making it harder for the fire department and local farmers. Not to mention the fact that if there's a spill it will destroy the water supply.

Please stop this. Why would a company lay new tracks in today's world? We're surrounded by existing train tracks in need of care and maintenance. Why won't Great Lakes Basin negotiate contracts with existing rail companies?

If this railroad is needed in Winnebago county put it along a main road not in rural areas. Perryville Road, 251, I-90, etc. See if developers like the idea of destroying their properties as you are intending in destroying the rural areas and wetlands in Illinois.

The Cannell Family has had a farm in Winnebago County for over 100 years. And it is STILL a family run farm. We do NOT want a railroad line dividing it. This is precious farm land and it needs to be preserved.

Absolutely not! We live right near the proposed track. There are many homes and 3 large subdivisions within a few miles. Our home values will plummet. We will never be able to sell our homes! Just like Boone County- move on!

We moved to the country 21 years ago for the peace and quiet. and we love our neighborhood. and now they want to come in and have a train crossing are road every 7min all day long. right next door to are land. This needs to be stoped.

This will hurt all the farmers along with a potential environmental disaster. This will cause traffic delays unless bridges are built taking away more land. The noise alone will affect all the animals along with ruin the quality of life of people. Suggestion improve all existing rail corridors.
