We call on Itison as a responsible company, and Glasgow City Council to stop the GlasGLOW event taking place in the Botanic Gardens during COVID. The rate of Covid is very high in Glasgow and running an event which attracts 1000s of people to the West end is totally wrong given the current restrictions which we are living with.
The event appears to contradict the Scottish Government guidelines on not holding outdoor events, limiting travel on public transport to essential journeys, and not having food and drink on offer after 6pm, which ITISON's event does.
We are not supposed to move around Tier 3 areas unless it's for the work, caring duties or educational reasons.
And with children being told not to go guising, it seems really odd that its then ok to take them to GlasGLOW,
We can't understand why, despite these rules being in place, it is possible for the event to be taking place at all. The current restrictions are there to protect people's health and the current situation is very fragile.
GlasGLOW just feels wrong when so many people and businesses are making such effort to stick to the rules.
So - While people in the west end love having visitors usually - this is not the time. Please don't come. be a superhero ...

The silence from the council remains deafening. I am currently drafting a formal letter to clarify how this event bypasses public health restrictions.

The momentum is undeniable now. It is clear that our concerns about this event are shared across the city.

During Covid it is inconceivable that this event is still taking place. The event organisers actively encourage travel into a tier 3 area and recommend the use of public transport when this is supposed to only be for “essential” use. It is completely irresponsible!
Amazed this went ahead. Walked past a few days ago and the queue was wild, no one social distanced, large groups, and security couldn't keep on top of it. It should be stopped and organisers should be fined.
An event that seems to abandon so many sensible restrictions during Covid. I live very near and see the crowds moving through it and having difficulty social distancing every night so far.
I totally agree with John Hancox’s misgivings. This event is in direct conflict with Scottish Government guidelines and puts the residents on the area of Botanic Gardens at greater risk.
Councillor, MSP and MP all made representations to GCC to stop this event I am made to believe, yet was still permitted to go ahead.
I live in kelvinside were parking is terrible due to not having residents parking, and this event is making matters ten times worse
Very disappointed that this event is due to go ahead as it’s content is clearly not permitted under the current guidelines. It seems that money talks!

There is no parking control. People are parking on both sides of Hamilton drive and Buckingham st and blocking the pavements. The mess and noise is unbearable.
