DeviantArt has backed down and officially updated their stance on art theft after our pressure. This win belongs to everyone who refused to let them redefine our hard work as acceptable. Keep watching their terms of service to make sure this promise stays in place.

As you all know, a site known as DeviantArt, has been wanting to make Art Theft legal on their site, and basically are saying that it's not "a bad thing"

http://protectart.deviantart.com/journal/The-Art-T...

* Stealing an object is theft. Using artwork without permission isn’t technically a “theft.” It might be copyright infringement or violate a contract.

A quote they said in the "Theft" catagory.

Please sign this petition and tell deviantart we will NOT put up with this, we will do EVERYTHING to protect our art.

Art theft is bad, imagine, you make your own work and then someone else use it without asking or crediting or on the worst scenario they sells YOUR works and make profit. This surely needs to be stopped, dA is not a place to "share random images" but a places for artist but mostly for people who CREATES.

I can't stand Art Theives - If somebody asks permission to use an artists work and the artist says yes thats a different matter - but if the artist says no then their deciscion should be respected!

If da decides that it's okay to steal art that rightfully belong's to someone they would lose hundred's of deviants .If not than most of there greatest art will be deleted for safe keeping .

This is ridiculous. Soon they will say anyone can come into your house and take your belongings because it's "not technically theft". I work VERY hard on my art. It belongs to ME. Nobody else. ME. My art. It is not public property.

This is taking away the rights of an artist's artwork. As said, stealing an object is theft, correct? Then, taking someone's art without permission and claiming it as your own so also be considered theft. I am in deep hopes that the Congress aren't that dumb to take away the rights over someone's creation.

I can't believe that devianart would really do this. What if the Mona Lisa was stolen? Or maybe copied and sold online? Then people would freak out. But why does my art have allowance to be stolen? It's my hard work and I don't want to be copied and no one caring about it

How in the world is art theft 'okay?' Honestly, you'd have to be clueless to agree with something like that.

Copyright infringement is still art theft. I actually give a fuck about my artistic career and I don't want some smarmy corporation to profit off my blood sweat and tears!
