I am one, amongst many others, whom wish for a future in the arts. I'm currently studying Musical Theatre at a pre-vocational school Birmingham Ormiston Academy, that specialise in the arts. I hope in two years time, to gain a place at vocational school down in London. I speak for myself, and many others saying that arts cuts seriously need to stop. Every week there's something about cuts on the news and it's not fair. My school are to suffer cuts financially also according to the Birmingham Mail.
By the time I get to hopefully go to vocational school in two years time wonder if they'll even be any funding for me or I've got to magic the money up myself with help from my family. Does this mean only kids with the 'big money' to find themselves get to go to study musical theatre and gain a degree? I, for one, hope to make a career from musical theatre and wish to perform on the west end in the future. I pray that by the time it's my turn- theatre is still as big and fun loved as it is today and the government begin to consider people like myself who want to do this. I deserve just as much funding as anyone doing anything else and my funding shouldn't be any lower or different than someone who got the opportunity for vocational school in 2013 than I will in 2017 or whenever I gain a place from their onwards. No matter what financial problems we are in as a country, start cutting some other things and not using the arts as your only option of cuts.
In short, STOP CUTTING ARTS FUNDS!

I have finalized a formal request for a meeting with the Birmingham Ormiston Academy board to discuss the specific impact of these budget reductions. Several local news outlets have expressed interest in our documentation regarding how these funding gaps limit access for students. Drafting detailed letters to relevant officials remains my priority for the remainder of this week.

The arts are the second biggest employer in this country and a major export and tourist attraction. The government itself admits this but refuses to acknowledge that this is an industry which needs investment not reduction
the arts don't just make future actors, singers and dancers. The arts make future business men/women who will stand up in front of people with no fear, the arts makes creativity acceptable and will inspire people to think there was never a box in the first place
I am a parent of a student who has just completed her time at Boa. In Birmingham. Without Boa's continued support, training, knowledge and passion. Our children would not have the ability to follow their pathway and live their dreams. Please support this...
Budget cuts obviously effect the bigger performance colleges like BOA but it really hits the smaller colleges harder, like mine. We hardly get any funding and we have to pay for our shows ourselves which means we only get to do one performance. So please, stop the budget cuts!!!
As a second year dance degree student at London Studio Centre I am fully behind you! It's hard enough to find the money to support ourselves with financial help at the minute, never mind if they cut student loans for the arts altogether! Best of luck x
Please stop, arts is how people escape from the reaility and helps people more than you think! I love it it is my life!
I feel very strongly about this as I am going onto drama school this year and need every help I can get and so do many others I believe it may be the worse decision to cut funding for the arts as the arts are well known across the country and the best form of entertainment you could find.

If the Government stopped cutting funds to the arts I could have taken one of the drama school places I have been offered this year. Instead I have to take a part-time foundation despite already having a level 4 qualification... cuts make the arts elitist.
