Guwahati,like many other cities in India, has been witnessing a steady rise in the number of crimes against women. There are many cases which go unnotified.There is a growing sense of insecurity and apprehension among the people. The streets of Guwahati city have increasingly become unsafe as the cases of eve teasing, chain snatching, molestation in public etc. have been on the rise.
So ,WE the people, have come together to urge the Government of Assam to ensure the following which will help create an environment of better living with an emphasis on ensuring the same for women in the city.
1. Police and Government Sensitivity: State agencies should refrain at all times from making any gender-insensitive statements and character assault of women. Strict actions should be taken against such statements made in the public sphere. We demand respect and dignity of all women.
2. Increase in deployment of police: Immediate and sustainable preventive mechanisms should be designed and adopted in Guwahati, which can act as a deterrent to such incidents in the future.This should also include, increasing the frequency of patrolling of the PCR vans and increased traffic vigilance in all areas.
3. Awarenesser: The state needs to campaign against sexual harassment - public messaging on women’s rights, shift male pspective of women, display hotlines and safety procedures all over the city.

Reaching this point in our campaign feels heavy because it reflects how many of us are living with the same daily fear. I am exhausted by the slow pace of change but seeing this momentum grow gives me a reason to keep pushing forward.

Too many cases go unreported because people dont trust the system. Sad state of affairs.
EVERY DAY I hear about eve teasing. Stop ignoring us!
Enough is enough. fix the streetlights and put more cops on the road.
Guwahati was never this bad before. police need to actually patrol the streets instead of just sitting in their vans.
My sister works late and I worry sick about her every night. make the city safe for everyone.

it has become impossible to even walk to the bus stop alone after dark. something needs to change right now, we are tired of being scared.
