Stop Common Core in Tennessee

My fourth grader doesn't even know what the Santa Maria is. She said her teachers are not allowed to teach social studies.

STOP COMMON CORE!!!!

Putting your vote where your mouth is: I urge every concerned parent or educator to start voting out those who support Common Core in our state.

If you are really ready to teach a child, teach them how to think for themselves. Not memorize your facts for a test.

So on my lunch hour, I spend 6.47 minutes watching a video explaining 3rd grade Singapore Math-bar models (yes I googled that). The question? If you had 8 Mexican stamps and 11 American stamps, how many stamps do you have all together? SERIOUSLY??? A 3rd grader could answer that question in 3 seconds flat. Why does one have to spend 407 seconds (yes I googled that) to prove the answer? I am CONVINCED that this common core crap is a ploy to make our students less confident in their problem solving skills, thus ensuring (yes I googled that) a dumber generation than the one before it.

Common Core is killing my children's love of learning. They've been sick more than they haven't, not wanting to go to school. From bright, fun loving children to depressed crying students is heart breaking for any parent. I beg you, from one parent to another-defund and repeal Common Core before it's too late to save our most precious citizens, our innocent children

would like to help in any way to move common out of my kids schools.

I want my child to be an independent free-thinker...not a clone. When my honor student begins missing math problems because she didn't arrive at the answer in the same complicated multiple steps that Common Core demands (though the end result is the same), there is an issue. We do not all think the same way and should not be expected to do so. And yes...my child IS brilliant! That is not an opinion, it is a fact.

Stop forcing our children to learn different ways and do so much extra work!!! Especially for students struggling in school! No books to allow parents to help the students do homework!!

As a parent of two elementary school children , I can say that I am very disappointed with Common Core. I am also disappointed that those we elect choose to ignore the citizens of a Tennessee ...

Stop this insane program, If its not broke don't fix it!

get back basic teaching,all this high tech crap ,this does not teach kids basic math,english,ect

Our children are showing my wife and me how Common Core has them going backwards. They're "learning a lot” of what they already learned up to 2 years ago via this "one size fits all" approach. They are also getting some questions that they and other children, including some with 4.0+ GPA’s, see as impossible to answer. This is yet another federal and state waste, but this time it's not merely taxpayers' money; this time it's our children, our teachers, their time and their futures. I don’t believe Common Core has even been tested to the extent it should by anyone, especially the politicians having us implement and use it. Let’s do whatever is needed to stop this.

Too much complex abstract information and not enough time to adequately teach to material in the elementary grades. Too much trivia info and not enough repetitive practice time to teach foundational building block material in math, phonics, reading and creative expression (writing).

Now home schooling due to this among other reasons.

Common core is not the future of our children's education.

Common Core seems to be well-intended, but it just doesn't work for everyone. I've seen instances where the teaching method used makes things way more difficult than they should be. Please stop Common Core before it robs our children of the desire to learn.
