Mr. Craig Honeycutt, a concerned parent from East TN whose daughter was taught Islam in 7th grade made this presentation to the school board. My husband and I watched this last night. This is really scary info. he found while researching Common Core.

As a parent, I am very concerned about the level of education that my child is receiving. This isn't about parents thinking their children are smarter than what they actually are; this is about "dumbing" our children down. The generations that are learning through the common core program are going to struggle through life once high school is completed. Our children are being taught with guidelines that do not encourage the usage of the deepest parts of their intellect. They are being taught under guidelines that stifle their growth, causing them to be inside the box thinkers instead of being the outside the box thinkers. We use to encourage children to reach for the stars, now the children are not encourage to do anything other than sit down, be quiet and take a test.

My Child has come home everyday stressed due to the OVER TESTING of the Government, State Board of Tennessee and other General Assemblies for this Common Core. My child has told us that she is so stressed and not learning anything from this , but is only concerned with passing. I do believe if you would ask other students what their thoughts on this matter you would hear the same thing. STRESSED OUT!! NOT LEARNING JUST HOPING TO PASS ! Take all these people (who have dreamed up this common core )and sit them in a room 7 to 8 hours a day and repeatedly test them and see what you come up with. Along with the sports and after school activities. STRESSED OUT INDIVIDUALS !! NOT prepared for college or to go on to the next grade. Stop the Government and Individuals who support this COMMON CORE CRAP !!

I try to help my grandchildren with their homework and common core is just stupid and wasted time. I learned math the old way and was very successful as a Credit & Collections Manager for a large manufacturing company in a global economy. We are wasting our time and our children's time

I am not a parent yet nor a teacher or anyone affiliated with the schooling system of TN. However, I am against common core and feel it needs to be removed from TN schools as well as every other state in this country! At this point, I do not feel comfortable sending my future child to public schools.

STOP Common Core! If you do your research, you will see where the funding comes from to back this. Research the Pearson group, CARIS, schoology. Don't take everyone else's word for it, find out for yourself. Stand up for our children! If we don't, no one else will.

Common Core Standards are far too advanced to push onto our 5 – 7 year olds. Obviously, no child development specialist was involved in developing these standards. Children’s minds go through developmental stages and a kindergartner is not ready for abstract concepts yet, thus they do not quite get them and this borderlines on destroying their self-esteem. Introducing harder lessons at earlier ages and before they are prepared just means our kids will be “left behind” each and every school year. Kindergarten should be fun and instill in them the love of learning, not just work, work, work, practice, practice, practice, then drill, drill, drill

We will not permit our government to "dumb down" our children. There is absolutely NO reason to change our education procedures, making things like math, a much harder solving process, than has been used for centuries. This must stop!
